I use one of their keys for my Jeep!

That's ok. We don't really need keys for our older GM cars anyway. A small screwdriver works just fine.

You used to be able to start it with no key whatsoever but we replaced the barrel.

Then you had the equivalent of what I consider GM's early keyless ignition. That feature usually kicked in after about 50k miles.

I see you have a YJ. My condolences.

Not just any YJ, a carbed 4.2 with the nasty Peugeot ba10/5 transmission!

YES! The mighty 258 will NEVER be constrained by your puny French power transmission device!
Also, will a stock 258 hurt a BA trans? I always assumed it was the guys doing wild V8 swaps or crazy rock crawling that broke them... but I've never experienced one in the flesh.

That 4.2L is junk. Yuck. The BA10/5 gets a lot of shit but the one in my XJ took everything I could throw at it over 100,000 miles (total of 295k). It does have useless gearing though.

My 87 Grand Wagoneer uses a GM key. Which is extra weird since that year was the Chrysler takeover from AMC i think.

GM purists hate him after he discovered this one weird trick!

I think it's more of a case of GM and Chrysler using blanks from the same manufacturer.

Don't knock the 4.2. It's a fine engine once you ditch the nasty stock carb for something better (ours has a Weber 2bbl).

It's poop and you know it. Get a 4.0L head on there!

The problem is that the transmission was designed for cars, it was never meant to handle 200+ torques, so they were known for failing early in Jeeps. Ours works fine but the shift forks are all messed up. The shifter feels like stirring oatmeal and you have to really force it into gear sometimes.

Well, it's a good thing AX15s are cheap and everywhere! Hell, they might even have the same transfer case bolt pattern?
